Smarter Response provides structured leadership for when normal processes begin to break down
Start with clarity, not assumptions
Begin with a free 20-minute Discovery Call.
We will discuss:
- how your organisation currently manages incidents
- where pressure points and risks are likely to sit
- what a proportionate, realistic next step looks like
Each element reflects how complex incidents are managed in high-risk operational environments.
Most organisations have plans, but fewer have a clear, repeatable way of making and applying decisions under pressure.
We wrap around the individual needs, contexts and objectives of each client.

FAQ
“We already have security and procedures – how is this different?”
“Will this disrupt trading?”
A very important question, with a simple answer – ’No’. Our approach is designed to work around operational reality, nit against it. It works to prevent unnecessary disruption to operations and trading by having a more proportionate, defensible approach to the ‘big calls’.
All without losing sight of the mission and values of your organisation. We help organisations to maintain control and continuity during disruption, or when disruption is unavoidable to manage the incident/event more effectively and to ensure that recovery and structure post-event learning actually offer value back to the organisation.
“Is this only for major incidents?”
That is one of the great values of these frameworks and tools. Many organisations find the greatest value in how events that could intensify and worsen can be managed at a lower and less costly manner, with reputations unaffected.
We also provide a framework that helps you make decisions, both large and small, whilst also giving you tools that help to prevent your own tactics create their own unintentional adverse consequences. We have had clients give us feedback where the decision-making tools and guidance that we have provided have been used in areas other than incident management, such as working through a difficult personnel issue.
The same principles that help organisations manage major incidents also improve day-to-day operational resilience. We help organisations recognise issues earlier, respond more effectively and prevent manageable problems from becoming costly major crises.
“Can this scale across multiple sites?”
Our services, tools and frameworks re designed to work for organisations of all different sizes, from single-site operators to complex multi-site businesses.
We recognise that smaller organisations face particular challenges and that larger organisations face different pressures. The principles of the Smarter Response system remain the same. The approach is scaled to fit the organisation, rather than forcing organisations into a rigid or over-engineered model.
If you do have a multi-site system, though, how much assurance do you currently have that there will always be consistent and high-quality decision-making, made under these pressures, which also fits into the leadership structures of your wider organisation? That’s exactly what we provide, tailored to your context.
“How does this align with our existing risk frameworks?”
The Smarter Response system is designed to complement and strengthen your existing arrangements, not replace them. Most organisations already operate with a mixture of processes, arrangements and plans.
The challenge is often that these sit in separate areas of the organisation and become difficult to co-ordinate during fast moving incidents. The Smarter Response frameworks turn these existing processes in to a more structured, smart and nimble model. The system is not designed to add another disconnected process. It is to help organisations make their existing arrangements work more effectively and safely together, under pressure.
Do we need this if we have never experienced a serious incident?
Most organisations that experience a serious incident once believed that it was unlikely to happen to them. Retail environments already manage constant operational pressure such as the levels of footfall they experience, that often they are open to public access, the issue nit-social behaviour that front line staff endure, and so on. The issue is rarely whether an incident will happen.
It is whether leaders feel prepared to make confident, effective and defensible decisions when normal operations are disrupted. We help organisations build that capability before they are forced to learn during a live event. Moist clients engage not because they have failed, but because they recognise that preparedness is now part of responsible organisational leadership.
Is this just about terrorism?
No. Terrorism forms part of the modern risk picture and we absolutely do address it, but it is in good company with other forms of threat, risk and disruption – all which actually have a more likely chance to occur: aggressive or concerning behaviour, violence or disorder nearby, cyber disruption, suspicious packages/communications, reputational pressure, social media escalation, etc.
We focus upon helping organisations manage uncertainty, disruption and decision-making across the full ranger of possible incidents.
WHAT THIS DELIVERS IN PRACTICE
Organisations we work with typically achieve:
- faster, more confident decision-making
