“But we already have plans” – That’s Not The problem…

Most places already have plans. That is rarely the problem. The real challenge begins when a live incident creates pressure, uncertainty, competing demands and fast-moving information. That is when leadership structures, decision-making, communication and coordination are properly tested.

As I leave 30 years of UK policing, I feel a genuine need to continue the ‘mission’ of being able to make people and places safer.

Supported by a team of highly experienced associates, Smarter Response Ltd™ brings structured operational, tactical and strategic thinking from high-pressure, complex environments into sectors such as retail, education and events. We are focussed upon helping leaders prepare for, respond to and recover from serious incidents and organisational crises.

Plans Do Not Mean Your Teams Are Ready

Most places already have plans. That is rarely the problem. The real challenge begins when a live incident creates pressure, uncertainty, competing demands and fast-moving information. That is when leadership structures, decision-making, communication and coordination are properly tested.

Questions To Ask Yourselves

– As an organisation, what steps have we taken before anything potentially happening at one our sites?

– How would we survive any post-incident scrutiny of the investment we have made in readiness of our sites and our people

– If an emergency incident happened at one of our sites, how assured am I that my team they will keep calm and manage it successfully? What processes and framework are they following to do this? Is this the same across our organisation or is it varied?

– What are the operational, financial, reputational and human costs of such incidents being dealt with in an ineffective manner?

– How are we testing our plans and our teams?

– How are we learning the lessons on a daily basis from what is happening during our operations, near misses and so on?

– What specialist knowledge do we even have in this space?

– What does Martyn’s Law mean for us?

Why We Do What We Do

In setting up Smarter Response Ltd™, I have been adamant that our services are not built on a market of fear. Our focus is helping organisations build confidence, structure, assurance and operational credibility before they are tested by a serious incident.

We are not here to help you write plans (which we do). We are not here to get you over compliance hurdles (which we do). Those are important ingredients but they are only only part of the offer.

Our services are all about preparedness, confidence and leadership capability under pressure.
